Most people believe the postpartum period consists of simply the first 6 weeks after the baby is born. I believe that is rubbish! Particularly when mom is struggling with postpartum mood disorders. It seems a lot of families have another adjustment period around 3-4 months as the baby begins to 'wake up' to the world. First giggles, mom possibly going back to work and heightened awareness in the child sometimes seems to coincide with difficulties. In addition, each new milestone seems to interrupt the sleep of some sensitive babies leaving the parents exhausted and in need of support. I, personally, define postpartum as the first year + after the child is born. If your baby is 4,5 or even 11 months old and you're struggling, please don't hesitate to contact me!
